The map numbering system refers to the way of defining the mapsheets or tiles, for example NTS or BCGS. The number of the map (mapSheetNumber) is a unique identifier for the map in the map series. For Canadian NTS maps, an example of mapSheetNumber might be 92F/4. The map series name may be given, and if a map name exists other than the map series name, then that may also be given. (For example, a geologic map may be used with its own name, but based on a topographic map defined by the mapSeriesNumber.) The inverse of the map scale may be provided, e.g., 20000 for 1:20,000.
